ANP leader escapes bomb attack in Charsada


CHARSADA: Another Awami National Party leader came under attack on Wednesday, as a remote-controlled blast hit his vehicle in Charsada, officials said on Wednesday.

According to the local police, the bomb blast occurred at Sar-Dhari area of Charsada and was targeted at local ANP leader Farooq Khan’s vehicle.

Farooq Khan was among three people who sustained minor injuries, however, the ANP leader was reported to be out of danger. Farooq Khan was running the election campaign for party chief Asfandyar Wali. Taliban militants have threatened to attack ANP, MQM and PPP election campaigns and Wednesday’s attack was the eight on ANP in recent days.




An MQM provincial candidate, Fakhar Islam, was gunned down in Hyderabad last week, while a hand grenade attack was carried out against a local PPP leader in Peshawar on Tuesday. Meanwhile, the death toll from Tuesday’s suicide attack on an election corner meeting of the ANP in Peshawar mounted to 17 on Wednesday. CCPO Peshawar Liaquat Ali has said there are increased threats of terrorism due to the ongoing electoral campaigning. The case of the Peshawar blast has not been registered thus far. Police collected clues from the blast site and commenced investigations into the bombing.
