UCPN (Maoist) chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal has said that Indian leaders have suggested that Nepal keep in mind its linguistic diversity while deciding the federal model.
Dahal, who returned from a four-day visit to New Delhi Tuesday evening, said that Indian leaders said federal states carved out on the basis of linguistic identity will be most suitable for Nepal. He, however, did not name the leaders or the parties suggesting this.
Dahal meets Indian PM, External Affairs Minister in New Delhi
UCPN (Maoist) chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal held separate meetings with Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and External Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid in New Delhi on Tuesday.
During the half-hour meeting with the Indian PM held at his official residence at 7 Race Course Road, Dahal called for India's support in conducting the Constituent Assembly polls apart from discussing the economic issues. Dahal also mentioned that Nepal was sensitive about India's security concerns, reports quoting officials involved in the meeting said.
UK's development assistance will reach Rs 13.5 billion this year: Duncan
Visiting UK Minister of State for International Development Alan Duncan has said that his government's aid to Nepal will reach £103m (13.5 billion Nepali Rupees) this year.
The minister, who arrived in Nepal on Sunday, also met leaders of various political parties to convey the UK's 'keen eagerness' to see elections in Nepal, said DFID.
"UK's development support to Nepal will reach £103m (13.5 billion Nepali Rupees) this year" UK Minister Duncan told Nepali Ministers," said DFID after Duncan's meeting with Finance Minister Shanker Koirala and Foreign Minister Madhav Prasad Ghimire. Similarly, ensuring a full budget and improving accountability were also on the agenda.
WB provides Rs. 6.69 b for climate change, food security projects
The World Bank (WB ) has agreed to provide an assistance of Rs. 6.69 billion to Nepal for the implementation of two different projects- one on climate change and food security.
An agreement to this effect was signed between Finance secretary Shanta Raj Subedi and WB´s Country Manager for Nepal Tahseen Sayed amidst a function at the Ministry on Tuesday.
As per the agreement, the bank has agreed to provide Rs. 2.67 billion, of which Rs. 1.29 billion is loan for the mitigation of climate related hazards by improving accuracy and timeliness of weather and flood forecasts and warnings for climate vulnerable communities, as well as developing agricultural management information system services to help farmers mitigate climate-related production risks. The implementation period of the project will be for five years.
