Quetta shuts down to mourn attack as blast toll rises to 30



QUETTA: The death toll in the Quetta suicide bombing reached 30 on Monday morning as two of the injured persons succumbed to their injuries in the Combined Military Hospital.

Earlier on Sunday night, at least 28 men and women of Shia Hazara community were killed and 60 others injured in a suicide blast in the Aliabad area of Hazara town.

Shehzada Farhat, a senior government official, told Dawn.com that the condition of some the injured persons was still serious. The wounded were being treated at the army run CMH.




A six-member police team was also formed to probe into the deadly bombing. The Superintendent of the Police Investigation, Muhammad Tariq, was designated to lead the team. A case against the unknown militants was also registered in Browery Police Station.

In the meantime, investigators from secret services investigated the site of incident and checked the wreckage of the blast.

Moreover, security was also tightened in and around Hazara Town to prevent the occurrence of another untoward incident. Paramilitary troops and police were deployed on roads and streets leading to the area.

In related news, a day of mourning was being observed in Quetta in the wake of the blast on the call of Hazara Democratic Party. All businesses and government offices were shut in the provincial capital to mourn the tragedy.
