Amritsar: Ten members of a family, among them seven women and children, were killed this morning when the car they were travelling in fell into a canal in Ajnala sector of Amritsar district, police said.
Four children, including two girls, three women and three men lost their lives in the mishap which took place near Ramdas village.
According to police, the family, which was returning from a marriage function, was headed to Ramdas Railway Station when mishap struck.
The vehicle fell into the waters when the person at the wheel lost control trying to negotiate the bend on a small bridge over the canal.
By the time passers-by could get to their rescue, all the occupants of the vehicle had drowned, police said, adding that the bodies had been recovered and sent for post-mortem.
