Guilty should be punished, facts are facts: Shinde on Ishrat Jahan case



NEW DELHI: A day after CBI told a court in Ahmedabad that it is probing the role of IB officers in Ishrat Jahan case, Union home minister Sushilkumar Shinde on Thursday said those guilty of carrying out the alleged fake encounter should be punished.

"Facts are facts. Guilty should be punished," Shinde told when asked to comment on CBI's submission to the court.

Shinde's statement bears significance as home ministry officials have been maintaining that there was not enough evidence against Intelligence Bureau special director Rajendra Kumar and three others in the alleged fake encounter case.

China exported arms worth $11 billion in 5 years, Pakistan major buyer: Pentagon



WASHINGTON: Asserting that China has signed agreements for arms exports worth USD 11 billion from 2007 to 2011, the Pentagon has said that Pakistan remains Beijing's primary customer for conventional weapons.

Jamaat calls for calm on China, Pakistan issues

Expressing concern over the Chinese incursions in the Doulat Beg Oldie sector of Ladakh in violation of international rules, the Jamaat-e-Islami Hind has called for a peaceful resolution of the issue. And it cautioned against emotional exaggeration and media hype  ;to avoid escalation of tensions between India and China. It also called for calm and peace between India and Pakistan over the treatment of prisoners in the two countries resulting in the death of Sarabjit Singh of India  ;in Lahore and the murderous attack on Sannaullah Khan of Pakistan in Jammu. Both cases showed utter neglect  ;by the jail authorities in the two countries and were utterly condemnable.

Bangladesh: 33 missing as bus plunges into river



At least 33 people went missing when a bus with some 55 people onboard plunged into a river while boarding a ferry in southwestern Bangladesh on Wednesday.

"We fear 33 passengers are missing ... rescue efforts have been launched to retrieve them," district police chief Mohammad
Ehsanullah told PTI on phone.
