GILGIT: A family video showing two teenage girls enjoying rain in their house led to their murder in Chilas on Sunday night. Their mother was also gunned down allegedly by her stepson and his four friends.

Five masked men barged into the house of retired police officer Rehmat Nabi and started firing, killing his wife and daughters, aged 15 and 16.

Assam school bans hijab, suspends 4-year-old girl for wearing it

Bokakhat: The hijab debate is back in focus, after a 4-year-old Muslim girl in Assam was asked to stop wearing the headgear in her classroom or face expulsion. Fatima Bibi's school said they cannot relax the dress code for one child. Meanwhile, her parents citing tradition have moved court.

"Hijab is a part of tradition. Not just for school students but also grownups. She wears the complete uniform and then the headscarf," Fatima's mother Alee Ahmed said.

Fatima's parents were served a 15-day notice by the school authorities. It said, "Either abide by rules or don't send your child to school." After that the family moved the Guwahati High Court."We were compelled to move court because we need to educate our daughter and take her forward in life," Alee said.

Ten percent Children in Pakistan Die Below 5 years of age

10 percent of Pakistani children die before the age of five, and the lack of doctors trained in Pediatric Emergency Medicine (PEM) is a big contributor to the country’s high under five mortality rate.

These were some of the conclusions local and international experts reached at the “Third Annual Emergency Medicine Conference on Emergency Care for Children” held at Aga Khan University in Karachi last Saturday.

Pakistan has long suffered from astonishing high infant and under-five mortality rates. A report published last year by the Pakistan Medical Association (PMA) found that in 2011, one child died every minute from EPI (expanded program on immunization diseases), diarrhea and acute respiratory infection (ARI).
