Seventeen killed in stampede at boxing match in Indonesia



JAKARTA: Seventeen people were killed in a stadium stampede after spectators rioted to protest a local boxer's loss in a championship match in eastern Indonesia, officials said Monday.

Youth and Sports Minister Roy Suryo said the victims — 11 of them women — were trampled to death as about 1,500 spectators scrambled out the overcrowded stadium to escape the riot that broke out just before midnight Sunday.

Kota Lama Sport Stadium has a capacity of 500 to 600, he said.

Egypt opposition to continue mass protests



Group leading millions seeking Morsi ouster call for leader to quit by Tuesday threatening "civil disobedience".

Protesters seeking to force Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi from office are gearing up for a second day of action, after large crowds thronged the streets of Cairo and cities around the country and marched on the presidential palace.

Some preparing for rallies on Monday spent the night in dozens of tents pitched at the capital's central Tahrir Square and the palace, positions organisers say they will hold until Morsi resigns.

Hezbullah should change its name to 'Hezb-evil', Turkish Deputy PM


Turkish Deputy Prime Minister Bekir Bozdag has suggested that “pro-al-Assad” Iran-based militant group Hezbollah should change its name to “Hezb-evil,” as it has declared jihad against innocent women, children, and old people.

“Hezbollah needs to change its name to ‘Hezb-evil.’ They call themselves Hezbollah but they declare jihad [Islamic war] against innocent women, children, and old people ... Isn’t it nonsense?” Bozdag said, during a speech at the 6th International Risale-i Nur and Islamic Unity Symposium in Ankara.


Islamist extremists attack ‘kissing protesters' in Turkey


London: Islamist extremists attacked a group of kissing protestors at a metro station who were protesting against a morality campaign by Ankara.

The protest was primarily against the Ankara municipality run by Turkey''s ruling Islamist-rooted Justice and Development Party (AKP), which admonished a young couple for kissing in public.

News.com reported that 200 people were staging the kissing protest against the officials when Islamists chanting ''Allah Akbar'' and carrying knives attacked the demonstrators and stabbed one person.
