Sarwar takes oath as 35th Punjab governor




LAHORE: Chaudhry Muhammad Sarwar was sworn in as the 35th Governor of Punjab on Monday in a ceremony held at the Governor’s House in Lahore.

Chief Justice of the Lahore High Court, Justice Umar Ata Bandial, administered the oath of office to Sarwar.

Punjab chief minister Shahbaz Sharif, ministers at the federal and provincial level, government officials and a number of foreign guests attended the oath-taking ceremony.

Narendra Modi is our flag-bearer: Parkash Singh Badal



MADHOPUR (PATHANKOT): Punjab chief minister Parkash Singh Badal on Sunday made a full-throated declaration of support for BJP election campaign committee chairman NarendraModi saying the NDA was a united and ShiromaniAkaliDal would contest the 2014 LokSabha polls under Modi's leadership.

"Punjab and I feel it's a privilege to have you addressing your first rally after taking charge. You are our flag-bearer now," the Akali patriarch said at a rally to mark the 60th 'martyrdom day' of Jan Sangh founder Shyama Prasad Mukherjee.

Punjab CM meets PM, seeks mercy for 1993 Delhi blast convict Bhullar



New Delhi: Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal and his deputy Sukhbir Singh Badal on Monday met Prime Minister Manmohan Singh seeking clemency for Khalistani terrorist and 1993 blast convict Devinder Pal Singh Bhullar, whose mercy petition was turned down by the Supreme Court. "We have submitted a memorandum to the Prime Minister seeking clemency for Bhullar," said the Punjab CM after meeting Manmohan Singh.
