Abu Salem will not be returned to Portugal, rules Supreme Court




New Delhi: The Supreme Court has ruled that the extradition of underworld don Abu Salem to India is valid. Salem is being tried for his alleged role in serial blasts in Mumbai in 1993 in which 257 people were killed and another 713 injured.

Salem, 45, was sent by Portugal to  Mumbai in November 2005 along with his then companion, actor Monica Bedi. He is imprisoned at the Arthur Road Jail in Mumbai.

At least 14 dead, 36 injured in bus-tanker collision in Thane


At least 14 people were killed and 36 others injured in a collision between a private bus and a tanker at Medvan Khind on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad Highway on Wednesday.

The collision between the private luxury bus and the tanker took place around 7 a.m., police said.

Resident Deputy Collector Manoj Gohad said rescue operations have already been launched.

US Consulate in Mumbai, Hyderabad, Bangalore on terror radar?



Mumbai: An anonymous letter threatening bomb attacks on public places and US Consulates in major metro cities like Mumbai, Hyderabad and Bangalore, has been received by the consulate-general and American Centre in Kolkata, reports said Monday.

A single page letter with "Al Jihad" logo on it was sent to the US Consulate in Mumbai and the Mumbai Police to alert them, said a newspaper report.

Any terror outfit in the name of "Al Jihad" is not known to the intelligence agencies but it is suspected to be one of the terrorist organisations and officials are taking seriously.

Pakistan training women for fidayeen attacks, says R R Patil



MUMBAI: Maharashtra government on Monday said Pakistan-based terrorists were training women as 'fidayeen' attackers, possibly to strike important cities including Mumbai and Pune.

In a written reply in the state assembly to Yogesh Sagar (BJP), Maharashtra home minister R R Patil said that as per intelligence inputs on January 12 this year, Pakistan-based terrorists have been training women, possibly for terror strikes in Mumbai and Pune.
