Chief Justice takes suo motu notice of Gujrat tragedy


ISLAMABAD: Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry took suo motu notice of the tragic explosion in a school van in the outskirts Gujrat on May 25 which had claimed the lives of at least 15 children, DawnNews reported.

Chief Justice Iftikhar Chaudhry taking notice of the tragic incident fixed June 4 as the date of hearing over the case.

Court issues arrest warrants of Amin Faheem


ISLAMABAD: A special provincial anti-corruption court, hearing the case of multi-billion-rupee National Insurance Company scandal, issued on Monday non-bailable arrest warrants of seven accused, including former federal minister for commerce Makhdoom Amin Fahim.

Follow up:

The arrest warrants were issued by the Federal Anti-Corruption Court over the suspects’ failure to appear before court. Apart from Makhdoom Amin Fahim, other suspects in the case include former federal commerce secretary Salman Ghani, Qasim Dada, Khalid Anwar and Amin Hussain. The court has directed the Federal Investigation Agency to present before it all six suspects on April 12.

Justice Katju asks Maharashtra Governor to pardon Sanjay Dutt



Following the upholding of the sentencing of film star Sanjay Dutt to five years imprisonment by the Supreme Court in 1993 Mumbai blasts case , Press Council of India Chairman Justice Markandey Katju has appealed to Maharashtra Governor K Sankarnarayanan to pardon the actor.

In a statement issued here, Katju sought pardon for Dutt under Article 161 of the Constitution saying that he had not been found guilty of having played a role in the 1993 blasts and had suffered a lot.
