* Dozens injured as bombs explode in Quetta, Peshawar and DI Khan
Quetta/Peshawar: At least 18 people were injured in three explosions – two of them in Quetta and the third in Peshawar – on Wednesday, as frequent attacks go unabated in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa ahead of the general election.
As per details, 15 people sustained critical injuries in two different blasts in Quetta. The first blast took place in the Satellite Town area near a private hospital, which left 13 people injured. According to sources in the Satellite Town Police Station, the bomb was planted on a cycle that was parked near the hospital. “Around 13 people, including children, were injured in the blast,” police said. The Bomb Disposal Squad said that explosives weighing around one kilogramme were used in the attack.
Police, FC and other law enforcement agencies, along with rescue teams, rushed to the site soon after the incident and cordoned off the area. A case has been registered against unidentified attackers and investigation is underway. Meanwhile, another bomb went off near the Kechi Baig Police Station on Qambrani Road, leaving two policemen wounded. The injured constables were taken to the Civil Hospital Quetta, who were later referred to the Combined Military Hospital (CMH).
Superintendent of Police (SP) Sariab Bashir Ahmed Brahvi said that the wall of the police station had also collapsed after the blast. It was a remote-controlled bomb, he added. Bravhi said that around five to six kilogrammes of explosives were used in the blast. Over in Peshawar, three people, including a woman, were injured in a low-intensity blast in the old city that targeted a Pakistan People’s Party leader, local police said.
Explosives were planted inside the house of Amjab Khan in Peshawar’s Sirki Gate area, which went off, injuring three people inside. It was unclear if the house was targeted in relation to the ongoing election-related violence or over old enmity. Meanwhile, a bomb weighting four kilogrammes was defused in Peshawar’s Hayatabad area, which was planted to target the vehicle of an officer working with a security agency. Two remote-controlled roadside explosions in Dera Ismail Khan on Wednesday morning targeted a convoy of independent candidate Israrullah Gandapur. However, no loss of life was reported.
