Army gets govt nod for arms purchase

The government has decided to allow the Nepal Army to procure necessary military hardware including weapons.

A meeting of the interim election council on Friday approved the NA's request to purchase the military hardware, government spokesperson and communication minister Madhav Poudel informed. The NA has not procured lethal weapons since 2006 as the Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA) barred it from doing so.

HLPC asks govt to declare election date without further delay

The high-level political committee comprising top leaders of major parties has asked the interim government to formally announce the date for the Constituent Assembly election scheduled to be held this year.




A meeting of the high-level committee – formed to assist the Khil Raj Regmi-led government to function well - today urged the government to finalise the necessary procedures to announce the date for fresh election at the earliest.

German parliamentary delegation expresses concern over human rights situation

A high-level delegation of the German Parliament (Bundestag) has expressed concern about Nepal's human rights situation, particularly the difficulties facing human rights defenders, women and minority sections of the society.

Speaking at a press conference at the end of a four-day visit on Thursday, head of the delegation and deputy chairman of the Committee for Human Rights and Humanitarian Aid in the Bundestag, Michael Brand, said culture of impunity and the delay in the formation of Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) are a matter of concern.
