Military ‘worried’ over Musharraf saga: Qasuri

Musharraf’s counsel says abettors should also be tried under article 6
* Nawaz should also be tried for aiding Zia

ISLAMABAD: The counsel for Gen (r) Pervez Musharraf has said that armed forces are turning restless on the treatment being meted out to the former army chief.

Addressing a press conference on Sunday, Ahmed Raza Qasuri said that many ex-servicemen had condemned the situation during a meeting with him.

He said that abettors should also be tried under Article 6 of the constitution if the former army chief’s trial was done on abrogating the constitution.

“This trial should not be confined to Musharraf only. All those who abetted in violating the constitution should also be brought to justice”, at.

He accused the judges of taking oath under the Provisional Constitutional Order (PCO), promulgated by Gen (r) Musharraf. “Fourteen judges of the present judiciary took oath under the PCO, whereas Chief Justice Iftikhar Chaudhry also took oath under a PCO of a former military president,” Qasuri added.

He noted that resistance was coming from the judiciary, rather from the government in Musharraf’s case. Coming hard on the judiciary, Qasuri said he had compiled a list of 150 judges who took oath under PCOs.

Targeting Nawaz Sharif, he said that the PML-N chief was also included in the list of abettors who had helped a dictator abrogate the constitution, as he was a beneficiary of Gen Zia regime and had publicly announced to follow in his footsteps.

Meanwhile, Dr Amjad, a top leader of the APML and a close aide of Gen (r) Musharraf, alleged that the former president was been kept in harsh conditions at his farmhouse.
