Talal Bugti decides to boycott general election in protest

QUETTA: In a dramatic turn ahead of polls, Jamhoori Watan Party (JWP) President Nawabzada Tala Akbar Bugti on Wednesday announced to boycott the May 11 general election in protest against the non-rehabilitation of Bugti refugees.

Follow up:

Addressing a press conference at the Bugti House, he said that he would not contest election from NA-259 and NA-260, adding that his party felt that despite clear orders of the superior courts, the JWP was being pushed against the wall and the powerful elements were using all their links in this regard.

He said that the purpose of participating in the general election was to raise a voice against the atrocities being carried out in Balochistan and to make accountable those who encroached upon the rights of the people of Balochistan so that the province could be led to prosperity.

He said that the sanctity of chaadar and char diwari had been violated in Balochistan, and mutilated dead bodies were thrown in barren areas. “If the situation continues, it is possible that mass graves are discovered in Balochistan, as the recovery of thousands of missing persons has not been made possible to date.”

He said that the acts of atrocity would continue in Balochistan even after election, cautioning the people of Balochistan not to be disillusioned as the coming times would be more exploitative and cruel.

“Free, fair and transparent election doesn’t seem possible in Balochistan given the attitude and approach adopted towards the province,” Talal said, adding that the fact of the matter was selection had already been done in Balochistan, and the ‘tools’ of secrete agencies would be sent to the power corridors.

He said that institutions had decided not to let the people of Balochistan use their right to vote.

He said that his party had approached the superior judiciary for justice, and despite its clear directives, the Bugti refugees were not rehabilitated, and his son, Shazain Bugti, was not even allowed to enter his hometown Dera Bugti.
